Hurricane Season Highlights
Our Recovery Logistics team works year-round to prepare for the disaster recovery services needed each year – and this year was no different. With one of the most destructive storms since Hurricane Katrina, both our Recovery Logistics and Concurrent teams spent weeks with boots on the ground helping communities get reconnected to power after Hurricane Ida. We are lucky to have such a dedicated and organized team that will make sure the job gets done. With their help, we were able to be a part of restoring power to the over one million people who were affected by the storm.
For over 30 days, the Recovery Logistics team organized and operated two large alternative housing basecamps with 2000 beds, and numerous smaller basecamps for catering-only throughout Louisiana. Over 400,000 meals were served to linemen and other workers who brought services back to the surrounding communities. Included in that group, was our Concurrent team, who made our basecamps home for over 3 weeks! Our team of almost 2000 disaster recovery workers were hard at work transporting assets, preparing and serving food, preparing sleeping quarters, cleaning showers and all other tasks that were required to keep the operation running smoothly. Thank you to all employees who had a part, large or small, in this mission – you gave hope to the people of Louisiana.
Working in disaster recovery services can be tough on our workforce. Traveling, long nights, and time away from family are big sacrifices, which do not go unnoticed. That is why we are so grateful for their willingness to join the mission and proud to have them on our team – and we’re not the only ones. Take a look below at just a few messages we received during the storm: one from a family in Louisiana that needed help, and a few pictures from children who drew their heroes. When we receive messages like these, we are reminded of why we do this work:
After many of our recovery missions, there is often leftover food and supplies. Our Recovery Logistics team always makes sure it is left in good hands. The leftover food from the Hurricane Ida mission was donated to the Cajun Navy Relief organization to assist victims of the Ida Hurricane disaster. Cajun Navy Relief volunteers work tirelessly to provide immediate rescue and relief during natural disasters. Read more about their organization here.
